Quantum Leaps & Password Myths: Spotting the Noise in Cyber Advice
From premature quantum risk concerns to outdated password policies to fear-based guidance, this lightning talk will challenge the audience to look at governing assumptions within cybersecurity and critically evaluate advice to build a more resilient security program. While auditors, cybersecurity consultants, and insurance providers all play crucial roles in shaping cybersecurity posture, their advice can often be a mix of valuable "signal" and distracting "noise." I’ll debunk common "noise" like mandating frequent password changes, fearing quantum computing prematurely, or issuing impractical bans on public Wi-Fi, ensuring resources are better invested for maximum protection.
